About us
IAESTE in General
The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience, short IAESTE, is an international, non-political, independent organisation that offers internships abroad.
IAESTE has over 80 member countries, is supported by the DAAD in Germany and offers up to 1000 internships for Germany every year.
Local Committee Stuttgart
The Local Committee (LC) Stuttgart is one of over 60 local committees in Germany. We are about 20 active, voluntarily working members. Most of us study at the University of Stuttgart, some are working already or just finished their studies.
During the summer, we take care of foreign students who come to Stuttgart for an internship that we arranged. We support them with apartment-hunting, help with administrative formalities and provide further organizational assistance. Trips, bar crawls and similar activities will help to settle in Stuttgart.
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is our umbrella organization and supports us financially and organizationally.
History
IAESTE was founded in 1948 in London and has so far provided internships to over 300,000 students worldwide in more than 85 countries. The Federal Republic of Germany has been a member of the IAESTE program since 1950 and is represented by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
Organizational Structure
In each member state there is a National Committee (NC) and Local Committees (LC) at the universities. In Germany, the National Committee is represented by a section of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). IAESTE is supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Science and the Federal Foreign Office. The local committees are formed by dedicated students from the respective universities. Where this is not possible, the International Offices perform the duties of IAESTE.
Tasks
On the one Hand, the local committees (LC) accept the applications for internships abroad. The placement of these internships, which are usually between 8 and 26 weeks long, is free of charge. On the other hand, the LCs also look after the foreign students on site. This includes e.g. the search for accommodation, help with administrative formalities and leisure program .
Goals
IAESTE internships are intended to offer students of engineering and natural sciences, agriculture and forestry better practical experience and to provide an insight into the life, culture and way of thinking of other cultures and people.
