FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can I apply for any of the traineeships?
First you have to register on the IAESTE Exchange Platform. From January onwards, the internship positions of the various participating countries will be exchanged internationally and we will inform you which internship positions are available for Stuttgart. You can then apply for these and assign your priorities. Please only apply for positions where you meet the requirements, otherwise we will unfortunately not be able to consider you. However, there is certainly some flexibility, e.g. if you are studying renewable energies, you can also apply for jobs in information technology if you have knowledge and experience in this field. You can find more information on the Application and Traineeship abroad pages.
Are there suitable internships for my study program?
In general, internships are offered that have to do with the fields of engineering and (natural) science in a broader sense. The focus is on mechanical engineering, information technology, food and agricultural sciences etc. You can take a look at the current offers for an initial idea.
Why has my applicant profile not yet been verified?
After you have created your profile on the IAESTE Exchange Platform, you must provide some information about yourself, your desired internship and your studies. You must then upload the following documents as attachments:
current CV
Current transcript of records (+ Bachelor's certificate if available)
Current enrollment certificate
English language certificate (C1), maximum 2 years old, e.g. DAAD test
Inquire at the language center of your university for such a test, e.g. Sprachenzentrum Uni Stuttgart
Further information can be found in the guide. As long as you have not uploaded these documents, we will not be able to verify your profile and you will not be able to apply for internships. If you have provided all the required information and your profile is still not verified, please send us an e-mail as we do not constantly check new profiles.
How can I find out which company is behind the reference number/list item?
You will not get any information about the company behind the reference number. That is, because companies want only one candidate and not several, otherwise they could as well search for trainees without the help of IAESTE. You will not receive any information until you have made your final decision and received the O-form (i.e. the original job advertisement) after having paid the deposit.
Can I get more information about payment in advance?
In general the salary is enough for rent and other living expenses whereas it may not be sufficient for parties, excursions and other extras. However, the investment is definitely worthwhile. For the flight costs you can apply for a grant from the DAAD, which is approximately 30-50%.
You will find out about your salary when we give you the O-form (i.e. the traineeship offer) after taking part in the regular placement procedure and right before you finally confirm and pay your deposit.
Why do I have to pay a deposit for my place?
In order to ensure that there is real interest, a deposit must be paid to IAESTE Stuttgart when accepting the traineeship offered. This is important because there is generally only one applicant for each position. Thus, whenever this one applicant changes his/her mind, IAESTE fails to provide the employer with a trainee, which damages the reputation of IAESTE. After completion of the internship and submission of the internship reports or in case of rejection by the employer, the deposit will of course be refunded.
Why are most internships during our examination period?
Most internships take place during the examination period because the semester periods of many exchange countries are different from ours. They usually stop in July and start again in September. As a result, the internship periods are also different.
Should I include internships prior to my studies and compulsory internships in my application?
Internships during your time at the university are sufficient, compulsory internships should be indicated.
The information about the language proficiency is abbreviated. What does it mean?
E = English, S = Spanish, R = Russian, G = German, and so on.
The number indicates the language proficiency: 1 = excellent, 2 = good, 3 = fair.
I missed the application deadline. What now?
Don't panic. Check the current offers to see if you can find something suitable. If you find something there, write us an email to mail@iaeste.uni-stuttgart.de
